Welcome to the Hotel Kakslauttanen in Finland. By now, we’ve
all seen igloo hotels where one has to sleep in bear pelts and walk around in
sub-zero clothing that looks like a ginormous sleeping bag. And while this hotel does offer rooms like
that, my focus is not on these but in the glass igloos that are part of their
property.
The small individual 194-square foot | 18-square meter
heated glass igloo rooms provide a one of a kind opportunity to admire the cosmos
and experience the northern lights from the comfort of a luxury bed. I attest at how relaxing this can be!!!! Though the decor could be better - unless you
love the 70s vibe - it looks like a great place to collect one’s thoughts. And if you think this is boring, well then
you can take classes on how to pan for gold, ice sculpt or just relax in the
largest smoke-sauna in the world.
In preparation for taking a break, my last week of blogging
for 2012 is all about disconnecting in unusual places. The hotels are not the
over-pampering Ritz or George V that cater to our caprices, but small hotels
(with tiny rooms) for people who retain a streak of adventure in life. Bon
