apparatus studio, new york, looks to the clouds for contemporary modern lighting

  • Wednesday, October 10, 2012

  • The clever image above is a photo of the Cloud lighting pendant (as seen from below) designed by supercool Gabriel Hendifar and Jeremy Anderson for Apparatus, their Chelsea, New York design studio. At a glance, it looks like a bunch of party balloons stuck to the ceiling

And while there are many similar lighting pendants in the market, what makes these truly unique is the meticulous care of design and selection of materials.  For example, the frosted glass orbs are made by hand and have that irregular texture you expect from the hand made.  Each globule is hanging from a delicate brass chain, another detail that makes these fixtures totally rock.  I’m just waiting for them to come out with the wall sconce version of the Cloud. Wouldn’t it just kill any space!
