It’s not everyday you find modern studio products designed,
developed and made by designers engaging both sides of their brain – the
artistic and the rational. And perhaps
this is why the duo behind Token, a
Brooklyn-based design studio, have done so well.
Will Kavesh and Emrys Berkower head the studio that develops
all sorts of furniture and lighting but it is their Lemp Pendants that for me steal the show.
Inspired in shape by the matryoshka (Russian nesting dolls)
and by citrus, the pendants are a nod to Carlo Scarpa’s 1940s glass designs of
Venini. They are hand blown with
partially recycled colored glass and are belt sanded on the outside to give
them their look of imperfect perfection. The pendants come in 2 finishes and in
3 colors - tourmaline, aubergine, slate – as seen in these images.
Every project is of course different, but my suggestion is
to pick one shape that you love and cluster a few in a nook (at different
heights) or along a rectangular dining table (at the same height).
