silver of the 21st century

  • Wednesday, July 25, 2012

  • As a child I got a mecano set one Christmas, you know, the one with all the little metal pieces and screws that you use to build little cars and machines.  And this memory is exactly what came to mind when I saw today’s feature.

Created in sterling silver by the artistic dream team of Thalen& Thalen, a silver fruit bowl has never felt more contemporary or better suited to a modern interior.  I like the fact it is not a shiny piece of metal, but rather a matte object that beautifully reflects light off its many triangular pieces.

There is also a certain sense of movement … can’t you just see it closing on you as you reach for a piece of fruit?  Ouch ....

And to think, I could have totally built this with my mecanos!
