Futurism revived in the work of Salomé de Fontainieu

  • Friday, July 13, 2012

  • I couldn’t help thinking of Gino Severini, Umberto Boccioni and the rest of the Italian Futurists when I saw this piece at the Galerie Diane dePolignac in Paris.  Made of brass and striking a balance between sculpture and object, this marvelous piece represents dynamism in art at its finest.

But it’s as an object – a lamp – that it provides wonderful decorative illumination to a room.

Designed and made by French artist Salomé de Fontainieu, Homefire may not be the first choice for a lamp to flank a Chippendale or Sheraton sofa at the White House or Windsor Castle (although I think THAT would rock), but there are interiors where a lamp like this would be a fearless addition to the décor … and certainly a dynamic addition to any contemporary art collection.
