Project Pickboard | richard rabel: using dering hall in a master bedroom – final (5/5)

  • 3-D rendering: Punnen Thomas

Over the past 4 days, I’ve selected pieces for submittal to my client for their master bedroom.  All the pieces have been selected from Dering Hall, a wonderful online market offering only the finest of new furniture and accessories from artisans and designers.

    finished pickboard

While I would normally shop at several places to furnish a room, I am lucky my client was onboard with this experiment which I began late last year with a pickboard for my bachelor banker client using items only from 1stdibs (click here to check it out).  I am thankful to my client for humoring me.  While we may not end up using all the items, I am confident my client will be interested in most of them. J  I LOVE them all and would certainly not suggest any of them if they did not reflect my aesthetic and the client’s style. (Note to the cynics: I’m not getting paid by Dering Hall or any other designer to use their products!)

We began this project by “smartening-up” a 60-something client’s master bedroom.  Prior to my intervention, the client’s room was insufferably “traditional” which included a period mahogany sleigh bed and lots of “brown” furniture and “oriental” carpets.  The client decided on the palette (below) and so the furnishing had to work with this color scheme which, I myself think, works brilliantly.  The pattern of the rug and the coloring of the brass details on the night tables, the sabots on the chairs, the nailhead beading of the bench together joyfully dance with the blues, greens and oatmeals of the upholstered furniture.

    palette board: Benjamin Moore

A pickboard is just that: a proposal ONLY showing my furniture selections for the room.  In this case, it also includes the new floor finishes and wall color but NOT art, objects, wall treatment, etc.  This is hardly the entire project, but it is the beginning.  Now on to the hard part … the approval!!!!!!! of these pieces in order to move the project along.  Fingers crossed.
